“Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. My Father will love those who love me; I too will love them and reveal myself to them.” John 14:21 (GNT)

More and more people lead isolated lives. Insecurity fears are compelling some to secure their dwellings with burglar alarms, close circuit cameras and electronic beams. Electrified fences and gates are the order of the day.

What once was an open society, hallmarked by its hospitality and warmth, is fast changing in our endeavours to protect our families and ourselves from hostile elements.

Many people, often ironically enough in well populated cities, lead lonely existences.  Their family and friendship circle have diminished as the years have passed. They feel lonely and unloved.

Jesus heart is filled with compassion at their plight. In our verse for today he reaches out and assures them of his Father’s love and of his own. That same love has been given to you and me.

We were put right with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. As Paul explained to the Romans, we are no longer God’s enemies but God’s friends. And can boast of the hope we have of sharing God’s glory.

“We also boast of our troubles, because we know that trouble produces endurance, endurance brings God's approval, and his approval creates hope. This hope does not disappoint us, for God has poured out his love into our hearts by means of the Holy Spirit, who is God's gift to us.” (Romans 5:3-5)

The Holy Spirit regularly floods our heart with the knowledge of the love of God. No matter how much we may be on our own, we are never alone for God lives within our heart.

Prayer: “The Lord's unfailing love and mercy still continue, fresh as the morning, as sure as the sunrise. The Lord is all I have, and so in him I put my hope.”(Lamentations 3:22-24) Amen
