“Remember that the LORD your God is the only God and that he is faithful. He will keep his covenant and show his constant love to a thousand generations of those who love him and obey his commands.” Deuteronomy 7:9 (GNB)

There are very few things in life that make us as unhappy as someone we cannot trust. This can take many different forms. It can be someone who never keeps his/her promises, a worker who will stop working the moment the overseer turns his/her back, someone who does not stick to the rules or the person you cannot trust with money. The worst of all is probably infidelity in a relationship. Big or small, unfaithfulness usually leaves a bitter taste in the mouth.

On the other hand, there is nothing that makes one as happy as absolute faithfulness or trustworthiness. We even have wonderful stories about faithful dogs that make us feel good. Trust is the basis for feeling secure. If you know that in difficult circumstances, there will be a spouse, partner, parent, sibling, friend or someone you can rely on, it gives you a wonderful feeling of security.

Psychologists tell us that security is one of the most important things for a healthy body and mind. A strong foundation of support that you can trust helps you to have a lot less stress. To have someone you can literally trust with your life, is probably the most important thing in your life.

How much the more if I can have unfailing trust in the Lord. The verse from Deuteronomy tells us exactly who he is. El Hanne’eman in Hebrew – Trustworthy God. He made a covenant with all people to be their God and He kept that covenant to the point that it cost Him the life of His Son, Jesus Christ. He promised to love us, and we experience His love every day. He will never forsake us, He is always there for us.

Am I also trustworthy?

Prayer: Please Lord, make me a faithful and trustworthy person. Amen
