Noah did everything just as God commanded him. Genesis 6:22, NIV

Our Heavenly Father is ever patient with his children, though our hearts often wander from him. Over the next month we’ll be looking at the men and women from the Bible who waited a long time for their promises.

Whenever I get impatient, which is more often than I’d like to admit, it's always helpful to think of folk like Abraham and Joseph. They knew, through angels or dreams, what had been promised. But even though they had this miraculous reassurance, it still didn't mean the road was easy or the time was short until it came to pass.

Noah's obedience to God's commands stands as a testament to his remarkable patience and unwavering faith. For one hundred and twenty years, he faithfully carried out the task of building the ark, following God's instructions down to the smallest detail. His obedience was not driven by convenience or personal preference but by a deep trust in the Lord.

And his obedience was not without sacrifice. Noah devoted years of his life to a seemingly impossible task, enduring criticism and ridicule from those around him. Yet, he remained steadfast, trusting that God's plan would ultimately unfold.

Let us be encouraged by Noah's example of obedience and patience. May we trust in God's instructions and follow them wholeheartedly, even when they seem challenging or uncertain. As we surrender to his will and patiently wait for his plans to unfold, we can rest assured that he is working all things together for our good.

Prayer: Gracious heavenly Father, thank you for the example of Noah's obedience and patience. Help us to trust in your commands and follow them faithfully, even when the way seems unclear or difficult. Strengthen us in moments of uncertainty and grant us the patience to wait on your perfect timing. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
