Easter: The light after the darkness - 15 April 2025
Charlea Grey
About the 6th hour (12 o’clock) it became dark in the whole land and it was dark for 3 hours. Then Jesus shouted with a loud voice: ‘Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?’ It means: ‘My God, my God, why have You left Me?’ Mark 15:33-34, English Bible for the Deaf
To surrender and not know what lies ahead is one thing. To feel completely alone is something else. There is something very frightening about that thought.
When things are tough, it’s easy to feel lonely and isolated, even if many people surround you. At times, it can feel like God has forgotten you, even when loved ones and friends surround you.
You might feel alone because no one understands your circumstances or disappointments. When you’re surrounded by people who are doing well and you compare yourself to their achievements or exciting lives, you can quickly feel forgotten. When will it be your turn? Why isn’t God also working things out for you?
If you’re in the middle of a personal crisis, it’s easy to wonder whether God has left you.
When Jesus died on the cross and conquered death forever, he also made sure that God would never abandon his children. God does not leave us. Yes, sometimes it feels like you’re far from God, but even then, he is near and wants to draw you closer because he loves you deeply.
This Easter, remember that God is with you no matter how dark it is around you or how alone you feel. Cry out to him – he will take your hand and lead you into the light.
Prayer: Lord, help me remember that you will never leave me and that you are always with me, even when I feel far from you. Amen.
