Trust: I am a parent, Lord - 30 January 2026
Andrea Sieberhagen
Jesus paid no attention to what they said, but told him, “Don’t be afraid, only believe.” Mark 5:36, GNT
A man is waiting for Jesus.
He keeps waiting.
The man is falling to his knees.
He brings his heart’s cry to his Lord.
O Lord, I have a child,
whom I love so much,
but she is dying, she is dying,
she is dying.
I am a parent Lord,
I am kneeling at your feet.
I bring my child’s need to you
because I know
you can do anything.
Jesus sees the man’s desperation.
His friends tell him that his child has died.
They say “Too late, your child is gone.”
Jesus says, “She is alive; she is only sleeping
and behold, I will open her eyes.”
Jesus goes to the man’s home.
People are crying in that house.
Jesus says, “the child is not dead, she is only sleeping.”
His words make the people laugh.
Jesus says, “Talitha, koum",
Little girl, arise.
Jairus became quiet before the Lord.
I am a parent, Lord.
All the glory belongs to you.
You saw my desperation.
My little girl is alive!
Mark 5 tells the well-known story of Jairus’ daughter, a heartbreaking account of a father distressed over his child. How many of us, as parents, can identify with this man in his hour of need? Circumstances may differ, but when we fear for our child(ren), it cuts deeply.
Yet, when we lay our need, any need, at the feet of Jesus, his words in Mark 5:36 speak just as clearly to us today. It almost sounds too simple: “Do not be afraid; only believe.” If, however, we can hold onto these words, we begin to understand something of true faith.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I know you already know my need. Today I lay my deepest concerns at your feet and leave them with you. Amen
