Jesus still walks with us even today - 8 May 2026

As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; ... And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself. Luke 24:15,27, NIV
In the time of masterclasses, I am reminded of the one Jesus did with two men on the road to Emmaus. The Scripture reveals that Jesus took them through the Scriptures that pertained to him clearly and plainly.
I wish I had the crib notes, summaries, something. How come Luke did not give us more details of this conversation, at a time when Jerusalem found itself in mayhem?
Earlier that Sunday, Jesus had risen from the dead. Ironically, the guards posted to secure the tomb had quaked in their boots and fell down as though dead when an angel appeared and rolled back a stone. There were even sightings of the holy people who had risen. What a time to be alive.
Pilgrims to Jerusalem were still reeling from the events of recent days – supernatural, unprecedented darkness over the city for three hours, followed by the earth quaking and rocks splitting. Jesus of Nazareth had been crucified, abandoned in his darkest hour, not even one week after riding into the city on a donkey.
For his followers, it was devastating. They had denied and deserted the One who they had thought would turn things around in Israel. They had given up everything for this Teacher. And now what? Who knows what the burning questions on their hearts were?
But that day, a resurrected Jesus chose to walk with these two men who knew the Eleven. To these two, one unnamed, he spelled out everything. And only once Jesus revealed himself to them, did he mysteriously disappear.
Luke 24:32 remains one of my favourites: 'Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?'
In a sense, we have the complete Word of God, what Jesus so succinctly revealed to those men is there for us to study today – in depth too. We can learn from it and mine the nuggets. But, oh how blessed those men were to hear from the very Word of God himself.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for your Word. It is a rich tapestry of lives spanning millennia and prophetically pointing us to what is to come. Thank you for blessing us with your indelible, incredible Word. Amen.
