rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. Colossians 2:7, NIV

 

Paul uses the image of a tree that grows strong and healthy because its roots extend deep into the soil. In the same way, believers are called to establish their lives in Christ. As we are built up in him and strengthened in our faith, gratitude begins to flow naturally from our hearts.

 

Many people wait for improved life circumstances in order to cultivate gratitude. They believe that greater success, more possessions or fewer problems will make them more thankful. Yet Scripture teaches that true gratitude is not dependent on what we have, but on whom we have and who God is. When our lives are built on Christ, we discover a source of joy and thankfulness that cannot be affected by changing circumstances.

 

A tree with deep roots remains firmly planted when storms come. Likewise, a strong relationship with Christ enables us to remain steadfast when challenges arise. Our faith is not shaken by every difficult situation because we know that God is faithful. This confidence gives rise to gratitude. We recognise that the Lord will never leave us and that he is continually at work in our lives, even when we cannot see the full picture.

 

Appreciation also grows when we intentionally reflect on God's blessings. Consider the grace you have received, the forgiveness you have found through Christ, the hope of eternal life and the way your Heavenly Father cares for you daily. These spiritual blessings are beyond measure and remain ours regardless of what may be happening around us. They provide a firm foundation for thanksgiving in every season of life.

 

When our hearts are filled with gratitude, it affects every area of our lives. Our worship becomes more genuine, our relationships become healthier and we face the future with greater hope and confidence. Gratitude helps us recognise God's hand at work in both the significant moments and the ordinary details of life. It transforms our perspective and reminds us that every good gift comes from him.

 

Today, take time to focus your heart on Christ. Fill your mind with his love, his faithfulness, and his promises. The deeper your roots grow in him, the more you will discover that gratitude is not something you have to force. Instead, it becomes the natural overflow of a life that is firmly grounded in the God who never changes.

 

Prayer: Father, thank you that I can build my life upon Jesus Christ. Help me to be deeply rooted in you and to grow closer to you each day. Thank you for your grace, forgiveness, faithfulness and unfailing love. Fill my heart with gratitude that flows into every area of my life. May my faith grow stronger, and may my life bring honour and glory to your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
