Being alive to God means being aware of who he is and welcoming his presence and work into all aspects of our life; we acknowledge his greatness and welcome the power of his thoughts, words and inspiration, and, as he moves us, actively respond to him from the deepest part of our being, knowing that we are only because he is.

 

Seeking God through his written Word is an enriching journey of discovery that unfolds as we encounter and meditate on the Living Word. He unlocks new life, new outlooks, and with them, new challenges; dullness disappears as we’re taken where we never dreamt we could go – spiritually and physically – in constant touch with our Creator, Saviour and Lord.

 

Regardless of who we are, God is our Creator who is able to lead us on the right path.

 

He has given us the Bible as a treasure to cherish. Not only is it a wonderful revelation of God throughout history, but it is the unchanging, eternal love story of God for his people throughout the ages, and a mine of experiences that men and women like you and me, have of him.

 

Each experience recorded of these individuals down the ages, holds valuable insights into the nature of God and the nature of humankind, weaving a rich tapestry that reflects their lives – and, surprisingly – one in which we recognise ourselves in their thought patterns and actions more than once, as they, like us, often start out thinking that they have autonomy over their situation.

 

As we engage with human beings from all echelons of society we see how God’s power is at work in every situation, and his voice is there to be heard – or ignored – according to each one’s response to him. God never changes, but people do, and their actions reveal how they relate to their Creator and to their fellow-human beings.

 

This is awe-inspiring and challenging. It’s by wholeheartedly keeping his commands that we grow in obedience and faith; to reject God’s voice means to turn away from his face and the wisdom, inspiration and instruction he so generously offers to the seeking heart.

 

We need to be teachable, to allow the Holy Spirit to enlighten and convict us of what in us needs to change, and to be intentional in our obedience.

 

Shall we journey together, in the month ahead, exploring the lives of heroes of the faith while sincerely examining our own?
