I like God because in Christ I have defeated sin (2)

Danny Fourie

We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them  1 John 5:18

When we talk about the victory over sin, we must be sure of the fact that we died for sin “in Christ”. It has to become a true certainty with us. It sounds like a difficult argument. How should we think and interpret this "free from sin"?

Suppose you are at the beginning of a long, narrow street with rows of houses on either side of the street. At the bottom of the street Jesus is waiting. Our Christian life is to walk down the long street to Jesus, towards the maturity in him. You set your eyes on him and start walking.

Creatures that are out to hinder you to achieve your goal inhabit the houses on both sides of the street. They have no power or authority to stop you though. They hung from the windows to distract you and to impede on your progress. They are proficient with seductive suggestions and accusations to make you unsteady on your way to Christ.

What strikes me in this example is that nothing in the street can prevent us to get to Jesus. The only thing that can prevent our journey to Jesus can come from these houses. These creatures cannot force you from the street and drag you into their homes. No, they can only make suggestions.

To be set free from sin means that the creatures are not allowed leaving their homes when you are on your way to Jesus. They have no power over you. You are free! The only mistake we can make is when we give in to their temptations and enter the homes of these creatures. Often our problem is that we do not perceive that we are free of sin, because we do not truly believe it.

Prayer:Thank you Lord Jesus, that I am free of sin. Thank you that I am not a slave of any evil, but free to live for you. Amen
