I like God because he helps me to fight sin (1)

Danny Fourie

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armour of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. Ephesians 6:10,11

When we look at our lives, it is clear that "death to sin" does not mean that we cannot sin again. Yesterday we saw that we could walk down the street to Jesus, but sometimes we are so stupid and still want to go and see what Satan has to offer in the houses on the sides of the street.

Jesus’ death on the cross ensures that Satan can no longer run from the houses and pull us inside. The Lord wants to assist us not to even go and explore what Satan has to offer. The Lord wants to take us down street in a wheelchair in order that we do not change direction to those houses and listen to the sales talk of Satan. But we should want to be pushed in the wheelchair. We must realize that we cannot do it on our own.

In Ephesians 6 God shows us that He cares for his disabled children. He puts a wheelchair at our disposal. What does this wheelchair in practice means? It means to be one with him and to let the power of God works in our lives.

Furthermore, God has given us weapons. We must use those weapons. Do not think that you can take on Satan with your bare hands. How often have you in your own strength turned your back on Satan and walked in the direction of Jesus? Satan really gets scared when we start using God’s weapons. As long as we think that these weapons are not necessary, we will be defeated every time.

Satan wants us to believe that we can cope with him in our own strength. And when we fall for his lies, we think that we do not need God. With God's weapons we can emerge from the battle without scars.

Prayer: Thank you Lord for your armour you have given me. Let me realize that I am up against a formidable enemy and that I should not try to resist Satan in my own strength. Amen
