Winter: Faith to still soar on eagles’ wings! - 25 September 2025

... but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31, NIV
In the winter season of life – that time when the joints begin to creak, memories start to fade and the world moves faster than you can keep up – it can feel as though you’re slowly fading into the background. The voices of earlier years, the dreams, the work or the hopes for your children may have grown quiet. You might ask: What is my purpose now? What do I still have to give?
Read the words of Isaiah again. He’s not only writing to the young or the strong. His words are directed to all who have grown weary. He says God never becomes tired or weary. God’s understanding is beyond measure and he gives strength to those who have none left.
There is an eagle in your soul! Even in the winter of your life, God is calling you to fly again, not in your own strength but in his wind, his grace, his promises. The eagle does not soar by frantically flapping its wings, but by trusting the wind currents. So it is with your faith: you don’t have to get everything right yourself. You simply have to wait on the Lord.
The world may see grey hair and slower steps, but God sees a life full of wisdom, prayer and a heart that still beats for him. Your strength is no longer in your body, but in your relationship with your Creator. When you place your hope in him – that quiet trust, that waiting with expectation – he renews your strength.
It’s in this season that you may experience the deepest intimacy with God. The noise of performance has quietened. Now you can hear the whisper of his Spirit and he says: “My child, I’m not finished with you yet.”
May you lift your eyes today, not to the weary world around you, but to the heavens from where your help comes. May you feel the wind of the Holy Spirit rising beneath your wings. You are not forgotten. You are loved, anointed and still called.
Prayer: Lord, I wait on you. I trust you; renew my strength. Let me soar, not by my own energy but on your wings of grace. Amen.
