God cares - 6 July 2026

Ruanne van Zyl

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. James 1:17, NIV

Gratitude begins when we recognise that everything truly good ultimately comes from the hand of God. James reminds us that every good and perfect gift comes from our Heavenly Father. This means that the blessings in our lives are not merely the result of luck, chance or our own abilities. Behind every good thing is a loving God who cares deeply for his children and delights in providing for them.

In the busyness of everyday life, it is easy to take God’s gifts for granted. We become so accustomed to the blessings around us that we forget to thank him for them. Our attention is often fixed on the next goal, the next need or the next challenge, and because of this we can miss the joy that comes from pausing to acknowledge how much God has already done for us.

Gratitude helps us to see life through a different lens. It helps us discover the wonder hidden in ordinary things: the gift of life, the support of loved ones, food on the table, a roof over our heads and the strength to face another day. These may seem like simple blessings, but they are daily reminders of God’s goodness, faithfulness and compassion.

When we practice gratitude, our trust in God grows stronger. We begin to remember how he has helped us in the past and how faithful he continues to be daily. Gratitude shifts our focus from our problems to God’s provision. It fills our hearts with hope and reminds us that the Father who provided yesterday is the same Father who will provide tomorrow.

The greatest gift, for which we can be eternally thankful, is the salvation we have received through Jesus Christ. Every other blessing in life is temporary, but the grace, forgiveness and eternal life that he offers us have everlasting value. Because of this, every believer has a reason to live with gratitude and hope, regardless of the season of life they may be experiencing.

Today, take time to intentionally thank God. Name the blessings he has placed in your life. You will find your heart being filled with peace, joy and a deeper appreciation for his loving care. Gratitude opens our eyes to the countless ways God is at work around us and reminds us that his goodness never fails.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you that every good and perfect gift comes from you. Forgive me when I take your blessings for granted. Help me to walk through life with open eyes and a grateful heart. Thank you for your provision, your unfailing love, and most of all for the salvation I have received through Jesus Christ. May my life reflect gratitude and praise for all that you have done. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
