Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Psalm 105:1, NIV
Gratitude is one of the most powerful ways that we can honour God. In Psalm 105, God’s people are encouraged to give thanks to the Lord, call upon his name, and make known among the nations the wonderful things he has done. True gratitude does not remain silent; it overflows into praise and testimony.
Often, we think of gratitude as something personal between ourselves and God, and while it certainly begins there, it is meant to extend beyond us. When we experience God’s goodness, we should share it with others. Our testimony of his love, provision and faithfulness can encourage someone who may be walking through a difficult season. Gratitude, therefore, is not only a blessing to us but also to the people around us.
When we look back on our lives, we can see countless examples of God’s faithfulness. There were times when he provided when we had no idea where the answer would come from. He opened doors that no one else could open. He comforted us in our pain and gave us the strength to keep moving forward. Every one of these experiences is a reason to be thankful.
Gratitude also changes the way we view the future, because remembering and meditating on what God has already done for us strengthens our faith for what lies ahead. We realise that the same God who was faithful yesterday is faithful today and will be faithful tomorrow. His character never changes, and because of that, we can place our complete trust in him.
A grateful heart lives in expectation. It sees God’s hand in both the small and big things. It recognises that every breath, every new day and every opportunity is a gift from his hand. The more we thank God, the more aware we become of his presence in our daily lives. Gratitude sharpens our spiritual vision and helps us recognise his goodness in places we may have previously overlooked.
Today, take time to thank God for his goodness. Reflect on the ways he has guided, protected and provided for you. Consider sharing with someone what God has done in your life. Your testimony of gratitude may become a light that points another person toward the Lord and strengthens their faith in his unfailing love.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your faithfulness and love in my life. Thank you for every prayer you have answered and for every difficult season you have carried me through. Help me to never stop recognising your goodness. May my life be filled with gratitude, and may my testimony inspire others to praise and trust you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
