I like God because he helps me to fight sin (2)

Danny Fourie

He (Satan) was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. John 8:44

Ephesians 6 tells us exactly how God's armour looks. First of all, we have to put on the belt of truth. To fight against Satan this belt is actually a very important weapon. Satan is indeed the origin of the lie. You should not believe anything Satan wants to tell you. Everything he says is pure bluff. How beautiful his stories may seem, they are a lies. Do not get entangled in them, fight back with the truth. If only Adam and Eve did that. If they had fought back with the truth, they would have left the forbidden fruit on the tree.

To put on the belt of truth, means that we must be honest. Especially with ourselves. In 2 Corinthians 10:4-5, Paul writes that with God’s armour he breaks any resistance. With God’s weapons Paul unnerves the lies of Satan. “The weapons we fight with … have divine power to demolish … arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God.” Paul says he takes each idea that somehow goes against the will of God and holds it before God and asks him: “What do you think of this? Is it a lie or the truth?”

Paul is honest with himself. Once he realizes that he begins to conceive things through the work of Satan that go against the will of God, he tells God what it is. Paul does not let the idea to grow in his mind and ultimately give in to it. Before it is too late, he brings it under the captivity of God, or as he says, “and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

I do not have to say more. It speaks for itself. We must be honest. Use the truth. Do not get deceived by Satan when he tries to let you believe that you indeed can take things into your own hands.

Prayer: Thank you Lord again for the weapons you gave me to resist Satan. Thanks for that particular weapon of truth. Help me to be honest with myself. Amen
